The Sabarmati Report, starring Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, and Ridhi Dogra, has failed to draw significant crowds in its first week, despite earning praise from top political figures such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The film’s portrayal of the 2002 Godhra train carnage incident has resonated with influential voices, but is yet to translate into substantial box office numbers.
However, on its sixth day, The Sabarmati Report managed to cross the Rs 10 crore milestone. According to early trends on industry tracking website Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 1.75 crore (nett) on Wednesday, taking its total box office collection to Rs 10.25 crore (nett). This modest achievement offers a glimmer of hope for the film’s prospects. According to the makers, the film has grossed Rs 11.14 crore.
The film witnessed a modest turnout nationwide on day six, with an overall Hindi occupancy of 22.44%. Notably, night shows drew the most audiences. In Mumbai, the film had 246 shows with an occupancy rate of 41.25%. In contrast, Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) had 342 shows with a lower occupancy rate of 15.75%.
Tax-free status in various states
Haryana minister Nayab Singh Saini recently announced that The Sabarmati Report will be tax-free in the state, joining Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, which had previously waived taxes on the film. This move aims to promote the film’s message and encourage viewers to watch it, providing a boost to its box office collections. Rajasthan has also declared the film tax-free, making it the fourth BJP-ruled state to do so.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 vs Singham Again
Despite its steady progress, The Sabarmati Report’s journey to success is fraught with challenges. The film is struggling to gain traction amidst intense competition from big-budget films such as Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again. Both films, released on Diwali (November 1), have dominated the box office conversation for over three weeks.
Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 continues to draw massive audiences, raking in Rs 2.25 crore on its 20th day (this Wednesday), taking its nett total to Rs 237.75 crore. Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again also remains strong, earning Rs 1.65 crore, with a nett total of Rs 235.15 crore.
The loyal fan bases and impressive box office performances of these established franchises have diverted attention away from The Sabarmati Report, making it challenging for the film to carve out a significant share of the market. As the competition intensifies, The Sabarmati Report’s ability to sustain its momentum will be closely watched.
