A Class 9 student of an international school in Pune allegedly slit the throat of his classmate recently following a petty quarrel over organising the Annual Day function.
The victim student, 15, lodged an FIR at the local police station on Wednesday.
The police have detained the accused boy, 14, on charges of attempt to murder under Sections 109, and 351 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police said the accused boy in a fit of anger allegedly attacked the complainant inside a classroom around 2.30 pm on Tuesday.
The accused allegedly attacked the complainant boy from behind and slit his throat with a piece of glass, leaving him injured.
The assailant also allegedly threatened to kill the complainant, the police added.
Student admitted to hospital
Teachers and school staff admitted the injured student to a hospital.
A team led by senior police inspector Santosh Pandhare visited the crime scene.
They have produced the accused before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB).
He was later sent to the observation home as per the directions of the JJB.
The police said no teacher was present in the classroom when the incident took place as the Annual Day preparations were going on at a different location in the school premises.
Assistant police inspector Ketaki Chavan said the condition of the victim boy is stable.
Umesh Rokade, the investigation officer in the case, said further probe is on.
