Bengaluru traffic police ask airport commuters on Outer Ring Road to avoid Hebbal junction

The Bengaluru traffic police have issued a fresh advisory for vehicles travelling on the Outer Ring Road from the K R Puram side and intending to go towards the Bengaluru International Airport to avoid the Hebbal junction on account of work on the expansion of the Hebbal flyover.

“Commuters coming from K.R.Puram along Outer Ring Road are advised to take a right turn at Nagavara junction to reach Bangalore International Airport,” said an advisory from the Bengaluru Traffic Police on Thursday.

“Commuters coming from K.R.Puram, Nagavara (Outer Ring Road) are taking a U-turn at Hebbal Circle to enter the Hebbal flyover loop leading to heavy traffic congestion at Hebbal Circle. Due to the ongoing flyover pillar construction work at Hebbal circle, the right turn below Hebbal flyover is closed for commuters coming from K.R. Pura and Nagavara,” the traffic police said.

Commuters intending to enter Bangalore city via K R Puram, Nagavara (Outer Ring Road) Mekhri circle route and commuters planning to reach the Bangalore International Airport via K R Puram, Nagavara (Outer Ring Road) and Hebbal must use alternative routes to travel, the advisory said.

Commuters from K R Puram, Nagavara can enter Bangalore city through IOC-Mukunda theatre junction, Lingarajapuram flyover route or Nagavara-Tannery Road, the police said.

Festive offer

To reach the Mekhri Circle, commuters from K R Puram and Nagavara must proceed straight at Hebbal circle, move along Bhadrappa Layout and Devinagar cross and then take a left turn at Kuvempu Circle to reach Mekhri circle via Sadashivanagar Road.

The commuters coming from K R Puram and Nagavara to reach the Bangalore International Airport must take alternate roads like a right turn at Hennur junction and along the Hennur-Bagalur main road or a right turn at Nagavara junction, to go on the Thannisandra main road.

Four months ago, in July, the Bengaluru traffic police had issued an advisory for travellers to the Bengaluru International Airport to leave at least two hours ahead of scheduled flights in order to account for heavy traffic around the Hebbal flyover due to major infrastructure work.

“On account of infrastructure work on the Hebbal flyover and due to the Bengaluru Metro rail work the traffic flow at the flyover is slow during peak hours. Due to this situation vehicles traveling to the airport cannot reach on time so it is advised that vehicles going to the airport should leave at least two hours ahead of a scheduled flight,” the traffic police said in July.

The infrastructure work cited by the traffic police include broadening of the flyover arm on the approach from K R Puram to Hebbal and near Hebbal police station by BDA in addition to Bengaluru metro rail work from Kempapura Cross to Hebbal junction, at Kodigehalli junction, and at Byatarayanapura junction.
