Minor girl jumps off moving bus, driver and another man arrested in North Delhi

A minor girl jumped off a moving mini bus at Burari in North Delhi on Wednesday evening, after she was allegedly beaten up by the driver of the bus and another man. The police said that the two men, who were known to the girl, were arrested the same day.

The police identified the accused as Manoj and Deepak. Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi) said on Thursday, “Deepak drives a Gramin Sewa minibus. On November 20, the minor boarded the bus from Ibrahimpur Chowk. On way to Nathupura, an argument broke out and the men allegedly started beating her up… She managed to escape by jumping out of the moving bus.”

“Two passersby, who witnessed the incident, pursued the minibus. They intercepted the vehicle at Shalimar Palace Chowk. A crowd that had gathered there, suspecting that the minor has been sexually assaulted, began to beat the two men,” he added.

“On receiving a PCR call, police reached the spot and took the minor and the two men to the hospital for a medical check-up. The girl recorded her statement with a counsellor wherein she denied allegations of sexual assault, molestation, or harassment. Her medical report also supported her statement,” the officer said.

Based on her statement, the police have registered an FIR under sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), and 137(2) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Burari police station.
