Leftists are misleading people by bringing in ‘trained salesmen’ from Murshidabad: Tripura minister Sudhangshu Das

Targeting CPIM state secretary and Tripura opposition leader Jitendra Chaudhury, state Minister for SC Welfare, Sudhangshu Das, accused the Leftists, led by Chaudhury, of misleading people by bringing in “trained salesmen” from Murshidabad to sustain their political relevance.

Das claimed that the CPIM has become irrelevant across the country as people are now aware of their “bluffing tactics.”

“The funny thing is that the Leftists, under the leadership of opposition leader Jiten, are trying to ensure their identity by misleading people with these so-called trained salesmen from Murshidabad. It will have no effect, comrade, because the people of this state and country know that the Leftists are bluffmasters. This is why communists have become irrelevant in India,” Das stated.

In a Facebook post, Das further accused the Leftists of being historically anti-national. “The Leftists were against India’s freedom, democracy, and cultural heritage. They insulted Rabindranath Tagore by calling him a bourgeois poet, ridiculed Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, and taunted Swami Vivekananda by calling him mad. They were against the Ram Mandir and have opposed Hindu Sanatan culture. As I speak in favour of Sanatan Dharma, it is natural for the Leftists, with their distorted mentality, to oppose me,” he wrote.

This post follows a series of controversial remarks by Das. Earlier, he suggested that Hindus should refrain from worshipping their deities unless their “blood boils” over attacks on Hindu idols in neighbouring Bangladesh.

Festive offer

On November 3, Das asserted that if Muslims have a Wakf Board, Hindus should also be entitled to a Sanatan Board. He argued that Christians and Sikhs already have their respective boards, and if Hindus are denied similar rights, then all such boards should be abolished.

He also accused the Congress party, under Rahul Gandhi, of engaging in anti-national conspiracies. “Indians need to become conscious of the designs of the grand old party,” he added.

In a now-deleted Facebook post from September, Das had criticised Hindus for their perceived inaction against attacks on their temples and idols. “Hindus no longer have the moral right to worship their gods and goddesses because the community fails to protect its deities and temples from infidel jihadis. Those who remain silent in the face of such disrespect for their religion have no true devotion (pujapaath). If your blood doesn’t boil at the desecration of your idols and temples, then it’s not blood but water flowing through your veins. Think beyond politics,” his post read.

The issue sparked outrage in the state assembly, with opposition MLAs demanding that Das formally withdraw his comments and issue an apology.

While Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury noted that Das had deleted his controversial post, implying repentance, other members of the treasury bench defended Das, stating that his comments reflected the reality of Hindu temples and idols being desecrated in parts of Bangladesh and Tripura.

Reacting to Das’s statements, the CPIM issued a response on their official Facebook page: “Distorted history is now the only crutch for Minister Sudhangshu. The communists played a vital role in India’s independence struggle, while today’s patriots and traitors are being defined by those who aided the British.”
