PMRDA bans contract staff from using mobiles during work hours

To inculcate discipline and avoid problems during work, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has banned contract employees hired through an outsourcing agency from using their mobile phones during office hours.

“It has been noticed that the use of mobile phones by contract staff hired through an outsourcing agency is creating problems at work. Also, there should not be violation of secrecy. As a part of office discipline, it has been decided to ban contract employees from using their mobile phones during office hours. Its implementation has begun. This decision will ensure that the concerned employee will be busy with work and would help in a smooth execution of official duties,” said Dnyaneshwar Bhale, PRO of PMRDA.

The mobile phones of those who violate the order will be seized, and frequent violations will lead to discontinuation from service. Landline phones are available for communication in office in case of an emergency. About 80 per cent of PMRDA’s staff are outsourced, with most of them being Class 3 and 4 workers. He said the overuse of mobile phones during office hours was adversely affecting the work, which is why the order was issued on Thursday. Bhale said its implementation will be done by the concerned outsourcing agency.

The state government has approved a staff strength of 407 posts in PMRDA and it includes office staff on deputation from other government offices. However, the actual recruitment will take more time.

“Many approved posts are vacant in PMRDA. It is expected that time would be required for staff on deputation to be available from the state government and direct recruitment through MPSC and district selection committee. Thus, the PMRDA has appointed an outsourcing agency to provide staff for office work untill the recruitment is done on the approved posts,” Bhale said adding the decision is not applicable for regular staff of PMRDA.
