Putin ‘has no interest in peace’, says Zelenskyy, accuses Russia of ‘severe escalation’

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, described a Russian attack using a new type of ballistic missile as a “clear and severe escalation” in the war, urging strong international condemnation.

“This represents a clear and severe escalation in the scale and brutality of this war,” Zelenskyy wrote on X, referring to the strike on the central city of Dnipro.

“The use of a ballistic missile against Ukraine today provides yet more proof that Russia has no interest in peace,” he added. “The world must respond. As of now, the global reaction has been insufficient.”

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a televised address, stated that Russia had retaliated against the use of US and British missiles by Kyiv by deploying a new hypersonic medium-range ballistic missile against a Ukrainian military facility.

Zelenskyy, in his remarks, criticised Putin’s acknowledgment of the new weapon as an alarming escalation after the deployment of North Korean troops on Russian soil.

Festive offer

“Putin is not only prolonging this war; he is also defying those in the world who sincerely wish for peace to be restored,” Zelenskyy wrote.

“The world must act. A lack of decisive reaction to Russia’s actions suggests that such behaviour is tolerable,” he warned.

“Response is needed. Pressure is needed. Russia must be forced into real peace, which can only be achieved through strength. Otherwise, there will be endless Russian strikes, threats, and destabilization—not just against Ukraine.”

“True peace is worth fighting for. Action is required,” he added.
