The Gujarat government on Thursday prayed to expedite the trial in the Rajkot TRP game zone fire case in which 15 accused are facing trial, on a day-to-day basis.
In an application before the Rajkot District Sessions Court, Special Public Prosecutor Tushar Gokani said that the case was committed for trial in August, after the charge sheet was filed on July 24.
“It is a matter of record that some accused persons have been seeking time to engage lawyers for around three months and therefore, the trial is not progressing,” Gokani’s plea said.
The game zone had caught fire on May 25, leading to the deaths of 27 persons including children.
The 15 accused, which includes several officials serving in the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) at the time, were charged under Sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 36 and 32 (acts of illegal omissions) etc.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on December 3, after the accused appealed for time to respond.
