A special court in Mumbai Friday acquitted Prahar Janshakti Party MLA Bacchu Kadu of all charges in connection with a case in which he was booked for assaulting a clerk of the public health department at Mantralaya 2011.
The designated court in Mumbai for conducting trials of MPs and MLAs cleared Kadu of the charges. The detailed order is yet to be made available.
The First Information Report (FIR) was filed against Kadu on the complaint of the clerk, who said the Prahar Janshakti Party leader slapped him at Mantralaya on January 14, 2011. The clerk alleged that Kadu assaulted him for allegedly demanding money from a person who had been shortlisted to be appointed as a medical officer. The clerk said in his complaint that he was not connected to the appointment of doctors.
The FIR was filed at the Marine Drive Police Station under Section 353 (use of criminal force on public servants performing his duty) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.
In 2023, Kadu was sentenced to one year in jail by a court in Nashik on charges, including using criminal force on a public servant. His sentence was suspended pending appeal.
Kadu is contesting again in the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 from Achalpur in Amravati district.
