As many students miss first exam, another CET to be held for BMS, BCA, BBA courses

With many candidates complaining of missing the Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (CET) for for UG-level professional courses, the CET cell Friday announced to hold another examination for them.

The CET was held on May 29, which was attended by over 55,000 students.

Admissions to Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) and Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) in Maharashtra were based on Class 12 marks until now. However, from this year, admission to these courses are going to be through CET after they have been brought under the ambit of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).

According to a circular issued by the Maharashtra CET Cell, “The decision to hold another exam is taken for the benefit of the students interested to pursue these courses. Many candidates approached the office with requests for another test as they missed the test held on May 29 because they were not aware of the requirements for the test for admission to these courses.”

Details regarding the registration and date for the new test will be declared by the CET Cell on its official website.

Festive offer

While the move has been welcomed by students who missed the first exam, a section of students are upset as another test will now further delay the process of admissions.

One such candidate said, “Already the CET Cell has not declared the result of the test conducted in May. Degree admissions have already started in colleges, except for these courses.”

Many colleges in Mumbai changed the nomenclature of the popular course BMS and made it B.Com (Management Studies).

Admission to these courses have already started, based on marks obtained by students in Class 12. “I want to take admission to BMS. But what if I fail to secure a seat, considering that the seats are now limited as many colleges have changed the name. B. Com. (Management Studies) will be my preferred option in that case. But now I am forced to either wait and take a chance for BMS or confirm admission in B. Com (Management Studies) because these admissions are going on currently,” another student said.
