A CYBER police station has been established in the Maha Kumbh Mela area with a team of cyber experts appointed there to keep a watch and check threats such as misuse of AI, the dark web and social media platforms. This initiative aims at safeguarding devotees from potential cyber scams during the grand event, a government spokesperson said.
The team comprising cyber experts and officers from across Uttar Pradesh has been formed to manage online security as nearly 45 crore devotees are expected to attend the Mela. These specialists would provide round-the-clock vigilance and strive to ensure a secure and seamless experience for pilgrims from India and abroad, the spokesperson said.
Officers informed that detailed plans have been made to protect devotees from cyber fraud, including threats from fake and dark websites and malicious activities on social media.
Measures are in place to prevent any misuse of AI, social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, apart from Google. Suspicious activities, such as fake links used by fraudsters, are being closely monitored and neutralised, the spokesperson said.
The cyber security team has also identified 44 suspicious websites and initiated action against them. To ensure the safety of devotees attending Maha Kumbh 2025, a large-scale awareness campaign is underway.
