Australian pace trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins have signed up as supplementary players for the upcoming Big Bash League starting on December 15.
“Hazlewood and Starc have signed for Sydney Sixers under the league’s marquee supplementary player rule, while Cummins will be in Sydney Thunder’s auxiliary list,” ‘cricket.com.au’ reported.
The supplementary list allows Big Bash clubs to rope in a centrally-contracted Australian player in case they are available.
The trio missed the marquee T20 competition last season due to national commitments.
“Mitch and Josh are both foundation members of our club and have been a part of the Sixers for a long time, so any opportunity for us to engage them throughout the season is a win for our club and a win for our fans,” said Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes.
“Both of the guys have great relationships with (coach) Greg (Shipperd) and the playing group and having them involved in any capacity will always be a boost for our group,” he added.
Will Hazlewood play Adelaide Test
Josh Hazlewood missed the Adelaide Test due to an injury. He said he can return to the Australian squad for the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against India after bowling two training spells at full pace at the Adelaide Oval on Monday.
Hazlewood missed the pink-ball Test in Adelaide last week due to a side strain, but if his recovery stays on course, he could return to full fitness to play the next Test in Brisbane, starting Saturday.
“I think it’ll be how I pull up in the 24 hours following it really,” Hazelwood told a press conference, per Reuters.
“It’s just that repetitive (action) and obviously two spells makes a big difference. Cooling down pretty much fully and then going again in the same day, and the intensity has got to be right up there as well. So a few boxes to tick, but it’s probably the 24 hours that follow and pulling up again the next day and then thinking ‘yeah, I’d be right to go again if I had to’.”
“The great thing about Josh is he’s very level character. He’ll do everything he can to get up for the game and then it’s up to the leadership group and the selectors to tick that one off,” said Mitchell Marsh addressing press on Thursday.
