Microsoft abandoned Windows Phone in 2017, but the minimalistic user interface and smooth transition animations remain popular among smartphone enthusiasts. Recently, Michael Fisher, who goes by the name MrMobile on YouTube, shared a video featuring an Android launcher that lets you turn your Android device into a Windows Phone.
Dubbed Launcher 10, MrMobile said the launcher, which is available for free on the Google Play Store gives users a “very authentic taste” of Windows Phone’s tile-like interface. Just like how Windows Phones used to be, Launcher 10 features boxy square and rectangle tiles, which look exactly like the home screen on Nokia Lumia phones.
While Launcher 10 has been around for a while, it reminds Android users how customisable the mobile operating system is. When you first open Launcher 10, the launcher will automatically show a bunch of tiles on the home screen, which can be customised to user preferences.
Not only can you adjust the size of the tile, but also choose the colours and apply a custom icon pack. Launcher 10 also supports most Android widgets, and you can quickly add your favourite ones by long-pressing an empty space on the home screen. At the start of the video, MrMobile discusses Launcher 95, another app that gives modern Android devices the classic Windows 95 and Windows XP look and feel.
A few minutes later, he showcases how users can customise Launcher 10 to turn their Android into a Windows Phone lookalike. While the app does not have Live Tiles, it features several options like support for custom icon packs, and expanding or shrinking an app tile. choose how the all-apps menu looks like and more.
In case you don’t like Launcher 10, make sure to check out Square Home, another launcher that gives your home screen a Windows look. If you are looking to run Windows on Android, Winlator is a good option that requires no tinkering with terminal commands and granting shady permissions.
