Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami have raised serious concerns over the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is protesting on the Punjab-Haryana border. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ambala has written an official letter to the DC of Sangrur, requesting appropriate medical assistance for Dallewal, whose health has been reported to be declining, with weight loss being a major concern.
The letter, which also mentions the proposed Delhi march on December 14, highlights the need for effective law and order management in the inter-state border and Ambala district. This comes as Dallewal continues his hunger strike, demanding a law to guarantee a Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all crops.
Giani Raghbir Singh condemned the government’s inaction on farmers’ demands, calling their struggle a shameful reflection of democratic failure. He reiterated that the legitimate demands of farmers, including MSP for all crops, must be addressed. While urging Punjab’s political parties to stand in solidarity with the farmers, he also advised them to explore other forms of protest beyond hunger strikes.
Advocate Dhami further criticised both the central and state governments for their intransigence, pointing out the contradiction in Prime Minister Modi’s rhetoric of calling farmers ‘Annadata’ while neglecting their welfare. He called for immediate action to pass the MSP law in Parliament, warning that if anything were to happen to Dallewal, the Centre and the state governments of Punjab and Haryana would be held directly responsible.
