Billionaire Elon Musk has once again criticised Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, labelling him as “such an insufferable tool” following Trudeau’s apparent swipe at US President-elect Donald Trump.
Speaking at an event in Ottawa organised by Equal Voice, a group dedicated to increasing the number of women in politics, Trudeau lamented setbacks in the fight for women’s rights. He highlighted the recent US presidential election, where Kamala Harris’s defeat represented, in his view, a ‘setback’ for gender equality.
“It wasn’t supposed to be this way. We were meant to be on a steady, if at times difficult, march towards progress. And yet, just weeks ago, the United States once again voted not to elect its first woman president,” Trudeau said on Tuesday.
“Women’s rights and progress are under attack everywhere—overtly and subtly. I want you to know I am, and will always be, a proud feminist,” he added.
His remarks came shortly after Trump referred to him dismissively as the “governor” of a US neighbouring state, rather than as Canada’s Prime Minister.
The comments provoked a sharp response from Musk, a close ally of Trump, who reportedly spent at least $270 million to support the Republican’s successful presidential bid.
“He’s such an insufferable tool,” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to a post about Trudeau’s speech. “He won’t be in power for much longer.”
This is not the first time Musk has openly criticised Trudeau on the platform. Last month, Musk predicted Trudeau’s defeat in Canada’s upcoming election. “He will be gone in the upcoming election,” he stated, responding to a user’s plea for Musk to help Canada “get rid” of Trudeau.
Musk has also clashed with Trudeau in the past over policy decisions. Last year, when Canada mandated online streaming services to register for regulatory controls, Musk called the move “shameful” and accused Trudeau of attempting to “crush free speech” in Canada.
In 2022, Musk stirred controversy by comparing Trudeau to Adolf Hitler after the Prime Minister invoked emergency powers for the first time in Canadian history to deal with truckers protesting COVID-19 vaccine mandates. Musk later deleted the post.
