The wedding reception of the son of Sanjay Jaiswal, BJP’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha, turned out to be a grand event, courtesy the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Jaiswal, a medical practitioner, had invited his surgeon friends working in hospitals in the US and UK to the function. PM Modi, after blessing the bride and the groom, not only met the guests but also fulfilled their request for a photo with him. Jubilant over the opportunity, Jaiswal’s friends told him it was the best “return gift” they ever received at a wedding reception.
Slogan With A Twist
The Opposition, which is devising innovative ways every day to raise the issue of alleged collusion between the government and industrialist Gautam Adani, did something out of the ordinary on Thursday. Picking up the tone of the famous “Azadi” slogan, raised during protests and also part of the popular culture, the Opposition MPs led by Congress member Hibi Eden replaced “Azadi” with “Adani”. As Eden screamed “arrey upar dekho, neeche dekho (look up, look down),” the Opposition MPs burst into a chorus of “Adani”. Sources in the Congress said the idea behind the sloganeering came from three members of the Congress who have been entrusted by Rahul Gandhi to come up with “fresh and eye-catching ideas” for their protest on the Adani issue. On Wednesday, the Congress members had distributed tote bags with caricatures of PM Modi and Adani. Asked where the bags went, a Congress MP said the Opposition leaders took them home.
Carol Practise
With Christmas just round the corner, it is learnt that a handful of senior advocates in Delhi are taking time off their busy schedule for a different kind of practice — singing carols. The Supreme Court Bar Association hosts an annual Christmas celebration for which the advocates are training their vocals. In 2023, then Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud sang Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer at the event.
