The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday announced that there would be a 15 per cent water cut across pockets of Mumbai city over the weekend to facilitate repair works amid technical breakdown reported in the Pise pumping station’s current transformer. Water supply will also be disrupted in parts of Thane and Bhiwandi until Sunday, December 15, owing to the repair work.
The BMC has appealed to residents to use water judiciously during the course of the water cut.
According to the civic body, a sudden failure was reported in one of the current transformers located at the Pise power substation early on Saturday. The malfunction triggered the breakdown of six of the 20 pumps operating at the pumping station, nudging the BMC to initiate the repair works on a war footing.
The restoration work is slated to be undertaken between Saturday and Sunday, said the BMC.
Pise Dam is a low water reservoir that stores and channelises water from the Bhatsa Lake, which is one of the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai. The Pise reservoir also supplies water to several industrial and residential pockets across Thane.
