Delhi BJP asks Punjab CM whether his govt has started paying Rs 1,000 to women, AAP hits back

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, in a letter to AAP leader and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, sought to poke holes in the party’s recently announced Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana in Delhi.

Sachdeva alleged that AAP national convener and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a bid to “gain women’s votes”, first promised a monthly allowance to women in Punjab and was now doing the same in Delhi.

“However, before misleading the women of Delhi, they seem to have forgotten that their Punjab government has not started the promised monthly allowance even after nearly three years,” he said.

“I have written a letter to Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Bhagwant Mann today, drawing his attention to the five guarantees given by AAP to the people of Punjab ahead of the February 2022 elections. A significant promise… was a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 to all women,” he said.

Sachdeva asked Mann to provide “clear answers” on whether the Punjab government was currently disbursing the Rs 1,000 monthly allowance as promised, what it was called and when was the last time that it was disbursed.

In response, the AAP said in a statement, “The BJP has blatantly copy-pasted Punjab’s scheme in other states, perhaps they should first learn how to draft policies…”

“We are only mid-term, and we have already delivered over 800 mohalla clinics, free electricity, and quality healthcare. Every promise is being fulfilled… and by the end of our term, we will have delivered on every single commitment we made,” it added.
