Haryana women’s panel vice chief held in bribery case

Haryana’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested the vice chairperson of the Haryana State Women Commission, Sonia Aggarwal, and her driver, Kulbeer, on charges of demanding and accepting illegal gratification this evening.

Acting on a complaint lodged by Anil Kumar, a JBT teacher from Jind, ACB officials raided Sonia Aggarwal’s residence in Kharkhoda, Sonipat. Both Sonia and Kulbeer were detained and subsequently arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

ACB sources revealed that Sonia and Kulbeer demanded a bribe of ₹1 lakh to dispose of a complaint filed by Anil Kumar’s wife, Neelam, a Haryana police sub-inspector posted in Bahadurgarh. The couple had been appearing before Sonia Aggarwal in a marital dispute case.

After a hearing on December 12, Kulbeer allegedly demanded the bribe from Anil Kumar to settle the case. Acting on Anil’s complaint, the ACB team, led by DSP Kamaljit (ACB unit, Jind), laid a trap and caught Kulbeer red-handed while accepting the money at Hisar’s Jindal Park. Following this, Sonia Aggarwal was arrested from her residence in Kharkhoda.

According to ACB officials, Sonia allegedly instructed Anil Kumar to pay the bribe to her driver to resolve the dispute. Both Sonia and Kulbeer have been placed under arrest and will be presented in court tomorrow in bribery case.
