Two-wheeler rider dies after collision with BEST’s wet-lease bus

A 25-year-old two-wheeler rider lost his life in a collision involving BEST’s wet-lease bus near the Shivaji Nagar Junction Highway Bus Stop late Saturday night.

The incident occurred at 11:30 pm when the bus, which operated on Route 375, was travelling towards Kurla Bus Station East from Shivaji Nagar. The two-wheeler rider, identified as Dikshit Vinod Rajput, came into contact with the right rear tyre of the bus. He had a severe head injury during the collision.

The bus driver, Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe (39) and the conductor Avinash Vikramrao Gite (39) were on the bus. The local police arrived promptly and transported the injured rider to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, however, the doctors declared him dead on arrival at 12:16 am.

The bus was operating from Shivaji Nagar Depot under the wet-lease model, managed by the BVG Group. The two-wheeler involved bore registration number MH-01-DD-6798 which belonged to the deceased.

Authorities from BVG Group, along with BEST officials were cooperating with the ongoing investigation wherein the bus driver is in police custody. The police are also reviewing the circumstances leading to the accident to determine responsibility.
