A 25-year-old two-wheeler rider lost his life in a collision involving BEST’s wet-lease bus near the Shivaji Nagar Junction Highway bus stop late Saturday night.
The incident occurred at 11:30 p.m. when the bus, operating on Route 375, was travelling towards Kurla bus depot from Shivaji Nagar. The two-wheeler rider, identified as Dikshit Vinod Rajput, suddenly came into contact with the right rear tyre of the bus.
Rajput suffered a severe head injury during the collision.
Local police arrived promptly and transported the injured rider to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar, but he was declared dead on arrival at 12:16 a.m. The driver Vinod Aabaji Rankhambe (39) was taken into police custody.
The bus was operating from Shivaji Nagar Depot under the wet-lease model, managed by the BVG group. Authorities from the BVG group, along with BEST officials have said that they are cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The police are reviewing the circumstances leading to the accident to determine responsibility.
The incident comes days after 7 people lost their lives in a massive accident where a BEST bus driver lost control and ran over 22 vehicles in Kurla.
