A Reddit user named NextHandheld made a bold statement on Sunday, claiming that he has access to Nintendo’s next and most-anticipated handheld gaming console in the world — Switch 2. According to the post, which is now private, the user will share the proof on Christmas, and the moderator has buttressed the claim.
According to the moderator, the user indeed has unpublished information about the Nintendo Switch 2 but is unable to disclose it as it would reveal his identity, leading him to a legal battle with the company, which takes such matters very seriously. Nintendo has announced plans to release Switch 2 by March 2025.
As per the details shared by the Redditor, the upcoming handheld gaming console from Nintendo is indeed called Switch 2, with a giant Switch 2 logo on the side. It is also said to be available in different colourways, including dark grey and full white. There is said to be a special variant named “game with a 9”, hinting towards Mario Kart 9, one of the most anticipated video games from Nintendo, expected to be launched alongside the Switch 2.
It is also mentioned that the Switch 2 looks and weighs almost the same as the original Switch, with the buttons and switches marginally bigger than the current version. Its Joy-Cons attach to the console magnetically and make a “click” sound when attached and detached, with two buttons on the back of the console for quick release. However, unlike the latest iteration of the Switch OLED, the first version of the Switch 2 is said to include an LCD screen.
The console is also said to come with a dock, which can be used to cast the console on a large-screen television or monitor, and the game slots are said to be of a similar size, indicating that the game cards from the first-generation Switch will be compatible with the Switch 2.
This information is in line with Canada-based company Dbrand’s post on X from December 14, where it mentions the actual dimensions of the Switch 2. It is said to be slightly bigger than the Switch OLED and is also confirmed to include a kickstand and an 8-inch screen. Dbrand makes cases and skins for phones, laptops, and gaming consoles.

According to Dbrand CEO Adam Ijaz, as reported by The Verge, the company is planning to introduce the Switch 2 case by late March or early April.
Another report by mixed-news from September hinted at Switch 2’s compatibility with VR headsets, where the console will come with two USB-C ports to attach additional accessories, such as cameras for augmented reality, and more.
