Manchester City striker Erling Haaland said he has to do better and convert chances after the defending champions went 2-1 down to Aston Villa on Saturday.
“First I’m looking at myself, I haven’t been scoring my chances,” the Norwegian said. “I have to do better, I haven’t been good enough,” the Norwegian said after the match.
Haaland is enduring a lean patch currently, having found the back of the net just twice in City’s last 8 matches. The striker who finished as the top scorer of the league in the last two seasons, also said that the team trusts coach Pep Guardiola to turn things around.
“He won the Premier League six times in seven years, so we will never forget that. He will find the solutions. He has been doing that every single year. We still believe in him, we have to work harder than ever right now,” he said.
Manchester City are in free fall at the moment having lost 9 of the last 12 matches in all competitions and are currently 6th in the table with a 9-point difference with leaders Liverpool. The Merseysiders, however, have two games in hand over them.
On Saturday, Jhon Duran and Morgan Rogers scored for Villa as City dropped 24 points in the league even before reaching the halfway point of the season. They have also conceded 27 goals in their last 12 matches in all competitions.
“We have to think positive and I have incredible trust in the guys,” Guardiola said. “Some of them have incredible pride and desire to do it. We have to find a way, step by step, sooner or later to find a way back.”
