eSIM from BSNL by March, to complete India-wide 4G rollout by June 2025

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, in an “Ask BSNL” campaign held on X on December 20, shared some important updates regarding the rollout of its 4G network and other related services. The company confirmed the launch of eSIM services by March 2025, an important update for those who use Apple and Google-made smartphones, which come with a single physical SIM card slot and an eSIM slot.

The state-owned telecom service provider has confirmed that it will complete the country-wide 4G rollout by June 2025 and will also roll out other related services like VoLTE and VoWiFi in a phased manner.

Sandeep Govil, director, consumer mobility, BSNL board, also confirmed that it does not have any plans for a tariff hike at present, a huge relief for those who are contemplating switching to BSNL after the recent price hike by all three private telcos in India.

BSNL’s 4G network will be powered by 22,000 towers, which will be installed across the country under the 4G saturation project. The company plans to have a total of 1,00,000 towers, which will be further expanded in subsequent phases as needed.

BSNL has been announcing new services recently, including global satellite phone service, where it is the exclusive service provider in India. It is also the first service provider in the country to offer direct-to-device satellite service, although there isn’t much information on how to subscribe to the same.
