Delhi L-G points to ‘hellish conditions’ in Rangpuri Pahadi; CM Atishi too visits area

Hours after Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena posted a video of his visit to Rangpuri Pahadi in Southwest Delhi to highlight the poor state of affairs in the area, Chief Minister Atishi too visited the neighbourhood.

In his video, Saxena, accompanied by former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot who recently switched to the BJP, can be seen talking to women residents who tell him about the lack of cleanliness and facilities.

In a post on X, Saxena wrote, “The stinking water accumulated on the streets and roads is not from rain but from overflowing sewers. The women narrating their problems and heart-wrenching sufferings are from Delhi, not from any other state or country. It was extremely disappointing and disturbing to see the helplessness and miserable lives of lakhs of people.”

“I urge the former Chief Minister, the current Chief Minister, and the ministers of the Delhi government concerned to visit these areas and see the hellish conditions themselves. They should take immediate steps to improve this pathetic situation,” he added.

Saxena was also accompanied by the South Delhi MP Ramvir Bidhuri.

Meanwhile, during a press conference on Sunday when he was asked about the L-G’s visit, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said, “I thank the L-G for pointing out our shortcomings… Earlier, the Lieutenant Governor had cited the bad condition of the Nangloi-Mundka Road. The road has been constructed and Chief Minister Atishi will soon inaugurate it… I request the L-G to tell us where we aren’t doing enough and we will make amends.”

The Delhi BJP, meanwhile, hit out at the CM, calling her visit “hurried” and ineffective. “The social media post by the Lt-Governor highlighting the poor state of Rangpuri Pahadi seems to have rattled the Chief Minister… She hurriedly visited the area without involving any officials and made grand promises… Atishi tried to mislead the people with false claims about improvement projects 30 km away on Rohtak Road,” Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva said.
