NCP(SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that he had a telephonic converstion with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis over the death of a man following violence in Parbhani and the murder of a sarpanch in Beed.
This comes a day after Pawar visited the families of Santosh Deshmukh, the deceased sarpanch, and Somnath Suryawanshi, who allegedly died in judicial custody after his arrest in connection with the Parbhani violence.
“Today I spoke to the Chief Minister about (the incidents in) Beed and Parbhani where I visited yesterday. I told him that the situation was serious and asked him to take note of the issue,” the NCP (SP) chief said in Pune, where he attended the Bhimthadi Jatra at the College of Agriculture.
Pawar said he also invited the Chief Minister to the 98th Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan which is scheduled to take place in New Delhi next month.
On Saturday, during his visit to Beed, Pawar had said that he will take up the educational responsbilities of the sarpanch’s children. In Parbhani, he demanded a thorough investigation into the death of Somnath Suryavanshi.
Several villagers in Beed, Solapur and Baramati are demanding the resignation of Minister Dhananjay Munde alleging the involvement of his close associate in the murder of the sarpach.
Protests in Parbhani had turned violent last week when the replica of the Constitution was vandalised, and Suryavanshi, who was arrested in this connection, died in judicial custody.
In Beed, the sarpanch of Massajog village, Santosh Deshmukh, was abducted and murdered on December 9.
