The Gujarat GST Department has allegedly detected tax evasion estimated to the tune of Rs 5.42 crore following state-wide raids conducted at 67 locations across the state, according to an official statement released on Sunday.
The searches were conducted at the places of people engaged in renting out party plots and providing mandap, decoration and catering services for functions and events, said the statement.
According to the statement, the search operations were carried out in cities such as Ahmedabad, Anand, Ankleshwar, Bharuch, Kheda, Nadiad and Vadodara on December 18, revealing significant irregularities.
“The investigations uncovered unaccounted transactions and deliberate underreporting of tax liabilities. The Preliminary assessments indicate a tax evasion of about Rs 5.42 crore, with the total transactions estimated at Rs 24.89 crore,” said the department’s release.
