West Delhi, Gurgaon: Bodies of man and woman found in hotel room and railway tracks; cops suspect murder-suicide

The bodies of a man and a woman were discovered a day apart — on the railway tracks in Gurgaon’s Pataudi and in a hotel room in West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar — last week, police said.

While the woman’s exact cause of death is yet to be established, prima facie it appears that the man allegedly smothered her to death and then died by suicide on the railway tracks, the police added. Inquest proceedings are underway, they said.

According to police, the woman, Kajal, a beautician, left her home in Raj Park on December 14 evening. “On December 16, a missing report was registered at Raj Park police station and the next day, her body was recovered from a hotel in West Paschim Vihar. A post-mortem was carried out and the report is pending. All legal procedures were followed and the matter is being probed,” Additional DCP (Outer) Amit Verma said.

The man, Surender (36), ran a small eatery in Jodhpur where he lived with his wife and children.

Police said that so far, it has come to light that Kajal left home along with a female friend. Close to midnight on December 14, Surender checked into the hotel where he booked a room; Kajal arrived soon after. Police said they went to a club in Punjabi Bagh and returned to the hotel.

On December 16, around 7 am, Surender left the hotel and his body was later discovered on the railway tracks. As per CCTV footage, no one entered the room after Surender left.

On December 17, when Kajal did not open the door, hotel staff alerted the police and her body was discovered. Police said there were no external injuries or any sign of strangulation on the body.

Officers said Kajal was married earlier and lived in Jabalpur, where Surender worked as well. That’s where they met and grew close, they claimed.

Kajal’s brother, Manish, claimed police are yet to give any clear explanation of how she died.

“A friend of hers… called her that evening and asked Kajal to come to meet her outside the house… she was with a man… We’ve never seen her before…,” he added.

“Kajal left home around 7-7.30… she told our mother to make tea and she’ll be back in some time.”

The family didn’t hear from her after that until the police called them three days later.

Manish said Kajal got divorced four years ago and has a seven-year-old child.

He said his sister’s body was handed over to the family on December 17 at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri.
