Who is Sriram Krishnan, Indian-American entrepreneur picked by Trump as senior AI policy advisor

US President-elect Donald Trump announced that he has shortlisted Sriram Krishnan, former Microsoft employee and aide of billionaire Elon Musk, as the Senior Policy Advisor for Artificial Intelligence.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social said, “Working closely with David Sacks, Sriram will focus on ensuring continued American leadership in AI, and help shape and coordinate AI policy across government.”

Who is Sriram Krishnan

Krishnan, a tech industry veteran, has done his B.Tech in Information Technology from SRM Engineering College, Anna University in Chennai and passed out in 2005. He started his career at Microsoft as a founding member of Windows Azure and worked there for over six years.

Later on, Krishnan joined Facebook in 2013 to lead its product and business verticals. He also had a brief stint at Snapchat in 2016 for a year before he joined Twitter (now X) in 2017.

At Twitter, Krishnan led several core consumer product teams and helped drive Twitter’s DAV growth. He most recently worked as a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z).

Krishnan has also been an investor/advisor in multiple firms, including Figma, Notion, Cameo, Coda, Scale.ai, SpaceX, CRED among others. Krishnan reportedly shares a close relationship with billionaire Elon Musk, with whom he teamed up when the latter acquired Twitter in 2022.

Responding to Trump’s announcement, Krishnan in a post on X, wrote, “I’m honored to be able to serve our country and ensure continued American leadership in AI. Thank you, Donald Trump, for this opportunity.”

Trump added in his post that Krishnan will work along with ex-PayPal COO David Sacks, who was recently appointed as the White House Artificial Intelligence and Crypto Czar in his new administration.

Krishnan also co-hosts a podcast with wife Aarthi Ramamurthy, who is also an investor, product executive and founder. The podcast, ‘The Aarthi and Sriram Show’ has had high-profile guests in its list, including Elon Musk and Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
