4 injured, 1 critically, in fire in residential building in Delhi’s Burari

A man suffered 100 per cent burns and three others were injured after a fire broke out in a house in North Delhi’s Burari Sunday.

Raja Banthia, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North Delhi), said they received a PCR call about the fire and people being trapped inside a building in A Block of Pradhan Enclave. When a team of five fire tenders, PCR staff, and the local police reached the spot, they found the fire in a room on the property.

Banthia said the injured men were identified as Anand Gupta, 24, Ravi Prakash Morya, 22, Vijay Pandey, 20, and Himanshu Gupta. “Himanshu reported to have sustained 100 per cent burns. All four were taken to Government Hospital in Burari but were later shifted to LNJP Hospital due to the lack of burn care facilities at the former,” said Banthia.

A Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officer said Gupta and Morya received 25 per cent burn injuries, and Pandey suffered 40 per cent injury.

“On primary investigation, the space was found to be used by an event management company to store wedding supplies, including electric cold pyro. The fire is suspected to have started in these materials and spread throughout the area. Further investigation is ongoing,” said Banthia. “None of the victims are currently in a condition to provide statements, and their testimonies will make things clearer.”

A DFS officer said a fire services official, Devender Sandhu, sustained a hand injury during an explosion at the site but was treated by CATS staff on location.

Another DFS officer claimed the premises, measuring 500 square yards, housed a cracker factory on the ground floor, and the upper floor contained residential rooms.

The police said the fire was extinguished, and the area was isolated for safety and further investigations. They said authorities are continuing their probe into the cause of the fire, and legal action will be taken.
