Weather Today: On Monday morning (December 23), Delhi and the surrounding NCR region experienced a welcome respite from the typical winter chill with light rain showers, bringing a refreshing change to the otherwise dry and crisp weather of the season. The showers, though brief, were enough to dampen the dust-laden air and cool down the city, offering some relief to residents who have been enduring a cold but dry December.
As per trends.google, over 2 million searches were made on the topic with a massive surge of 100 percent in search volume.
The rain began late night, with skies turning overcast and clouds gathering over various parts of the city. The showers, while not heavy, were steady and continued intermittently for a few hours, particularly in central and southern Delhi, as well as in areas like Noida and Gurugram. The light rain led to a drop in the air temperature, which had hovered around 20°C earlier in the day, making it feel more like a pleasant winter afternoon.
North India is reeling under an intense cold wave, with parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and other northern states experiencing sub-zero temperatures. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rains in several districts, attributing the situation to an incoming western disturbance.
According to IMD forecasts, the harsh cold conditions, compounded by rainfall, are expected to worsen over the next seven days in states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana.
