Shimla experienced its second snowfall of the season on Monday morning, bringing joy to tourists and raising hopes for an increase in visitor numbers in the coming days. The city had its first snowfall of 2.5 cm on December 9.

A senior officer from the meteorological department in Shimla stated, “A few spells of light snowfall, with one or two spells of moderate snowfall over Shimla and adjoining areas, are very likely to continue during the next four-five hours today. This information has also been shared with the local Shimla administration.”

According to the Hotel Association of Shimla, hotel occupancy in the city is currently around 55 per cent and is expected to increase in the coming days. The Shimla administration expects about 5,00,000 vehicles to enter over the next 20 days, primarily on December 25, December 31, and January 1, lasting until January 20.

On December 17, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anupam Kashyap said, “To ensure better facilities for both locals and tourists, a well-planned traffic strategy has been designed. Traffic arrangements for the period from December 20 to January 20 were discussed in detail during the meeting. Crash barriers and other safety measures will be implemented in areas with high accident rates, such as Chopal, Rampur, Shimla city, and its surroundings. Proposals amounting to Rs 40 lakh per region have been prepared for these areas and will be sent to the government within a week.”
