As much as his voice is known to melt hearts through evergreen songs, singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya is also known for his acerbic tongue that doesn’t mince words at all. Often finding himself in the centre of controversy over a lot of things, including the recent Dua Lipa concert where she performed his song from Shah Rukh Khan’s Baadshaah. Now, in a long tell-all interview with Shubankar Mishra on the Unplugged podcast, Abhijeet spoke about his equation with Salman Khan. “Honestly, Salman Khan isn’t at the level where I should even talk about him. I might have professional issues with Shah Rukh Khan, but he is a different class altogether,” said Abhijeet, who was in a particularly salty mood when talking about the Tiger actor.
Incidentally, when the alleged hit-and-run case charged against Salman Khan was national news, Abhijeet had blamed the people who were sleeping on the roads. This was seen as a voice of support from the industry towards Salman. However, Abhijeet vehemently denied the claims, and said that he still stands by his opinion, but it wasn’t made in support of the superstar. “What I told was that if you sleep on the roads, then such things will happen. Any alcoholic or a pervert can run their vehicle over people if they are sleeping on the roads like dogs. It doesn’t mean I support him,” said the singer of various hit songs, including Tan Tana Tan, picturised on Salman Khan.
“Those are not any star’s songs. Those are my songs. I have never asked who I was singing for. Except for Shah Rukh Khan, I never saw anyone else as big enough stars,” said Abhijeet, who revealed that he wanted to only sing for his Yes Boss star.
Abhijeet, who began singing for Shah Rukh Khan in the 1994 film, Anjaam, went on to sing many blockbuster songs. However, he hasn’t sung for the actor since Billu (2009).
