Kalki 2898 AD box office collection Day 8: Prabhas’ blockbuster breaks Rs 400 crore domestic barrier in just one week, poised to pass Rs 1000 crore worldwide

On its opening day at the domestic box office, Kalki 2898 AD collected Rs 95 crore; the epic science-fiction mythological film grossed nearly Rs 200 crore worldwide. Within seven days, the film turned out to be the second-highest grossing Hindi film of 2024, on track to dethrone Hrithik Roshan’s Fighter. So far, the film has netted Rs 414 crore in India, with over Rs 160 crore coming from the Hindi version alone. The film’s Telugu version has netted over Rs 210 crore in India so far.

On Day 8, industry tracker Sacnilk reported that the film earned Rs 22.30 crore nett at the Indian box office, almost the same as the Day 7 collections, which was about Rs 22.25. Though there has been a significant drop in the theatre occupancy compared to the opening weekend, the film continues to maintain its momentum at the box office, and is expected to witness a jump in collections in its upcoming second weekend. Trade analysts predict the film will cross the Rs 1000-core mark at the box office in the coming days.

The worldwide box office collection of the film crossed Rs 700 crore mark on Day 7, and it is expected that on Day 8, the film would have cross Rs 750 crore mark. The official figures are yet to be revealed.

After outperforming all the regional and Hindi films of the year, Kalki 2898 AD, originally a Telugu film, has emerged as the latest pan-Indian hit. It is expected to break several box office records in the coming days. However, it has to be seen if it will break the lifetime records of films like Baahubali: The Conclusion and KGF: Chapter 2, which stand at over Rs 1200 crore worldwide. Kalki 2898 AD was touted as the most expensive Indian film of all time, with a budget of around Rs 600 crore. A lot was riding on the film’s success, with Prabhas having delivered only one hit in the seven years post Baahubali 2.

Directed by Nag Ashwin of Mahanati fame, Kalki 2898 AD is a sci-fi dystopian film starring Prabhas, Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The film marries Indian mythology with sci-fi tropes, and has been positively received by both critics and audiences. The film ended with the promise of a second part, which will be about the arrival of Kalki, the tenth avatar of Hindu lord Vishnu.
