Delhi Police bust international drug cartel, seize narcotics worth over Rs 4 crore

The Delhi Police recently arrested two drug traffickers, including a Nigerian national, and seized more than 3 kilogram of high-quality MDMA, worth more than Rs 4 crore, from the two men.

According to the Delhi Police, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of their Crime Brach arrested Sanatan Goswami on November 14 and Ikechukwu on Wednesday. “The seized contraband has been traced to suppliers in Delhi-NCR, with connections to distribution channels extending into Himachal and Goa, and confirmed sources of certain drugs traced back to Delhi, indicating a complex international operation,” said Sanjay Bhatia, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) on Thursday.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by inspectors Jasbir and Vikas Pannu under the supervision of Raj Kumar, Assistant Commissioner of Police, and Bhisham Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, arrested Goswami, a local drug peddler from Ghaziabad, near Kalibari Apartments in Delhi’s Gol Market. The team also recovered 33 grams of MDMA — a commercial quantity under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act — from Goswami, the police said.

The police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under sections 22 and 25 of the NDPS Act. The police said their investigation revealed Goswami’s involvement in supplying narcotics to posh areas in Delhi like Connaught Place. Further probe led to the arrest of one of his suppliers, Ikechukwu, from Chattarpur with 47 grams of MDMA on Wednesday. During a search of his rented house, the police found tracking IDs linked to parcels sent from abroad, allegedly by one Frank, an African national. The parcels were traced to the Foreign Post Office which contained 6,790 Ecstasy tablets weighing 3.037 kg, valued at Rs 4 crore.

Additional Commissioner Bhatia said Goswami was a taxi driver before entering the drug trade through contacts with an African supplier. “He had contacts with consumers of drugs through his profile as a taxi driver,” said the officer.

Festive offer

Bhatia said Ikechukwu arrived in India eight years ago in Kolkata, before moving to Faridabad, and then settling in Chattarpur, adding that further investigation is underway.
