The Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) has urged singer Diljit Dosanjh not to invite children on stage during his upcoming concert.
The stage is set for the event of the year — Diljit Dosanjh’s much-anticipated and already sold-out show in Chandigarh on December 14. Fans of all ages are eagerly awaiting the music sensation’s performance at the Sector 34 Parade Ground as part of his ‘Dil-Luminati India Tour 2024.’
As excitement builds, Shipra Bansal, chairperson of CCPCR, has issued an advisory to the organisers and Dosanjh in response to a representation filed by Panditrao Dharenavar, a sociology professor at the Post Graduate Government College, Sector 46. The advisory requests that Dosanjh refrain from performing songs like Patiala Peg, 5 Taara, Theke, and Case at the concert. CCPCR states that such songs could negatively influence children of impressionable age.
The advisory also highlights that children should not be invited on stage during the performance, as the peak sound pressure levels — reportedly above 120 decibels — are harmful to young listeners. Additionally, CCPCR has directed the organisers to ensure that alcohol is not served to attendees below 25 years of age, as this would violate provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and other laws.
In November, Panditrao had filed a similar representation in Telangana, following which the District Child Welfare Officer issued a notice advising against inviting children on stage and singing songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence.
“I am sure Diljit Dosanjh will follow the advisory in the larger interest of children,” says Panditrao.
