Actors turning directors isn’t that rare an occurrence anymore in Tamil cinema. We have often seen this transition happening with varying degrees of success. But what makes Dhanush’s journey all the more special is the speed with which he is doling out projects. With his sophomore directorial Raayan hitting the screens in July this year, Dhanush has set the release date for his third film in the director’s chair. Titled Nilavukku Enmel Ennadi Kobam (NEEK), the film is expected to be released on February 7, 2025.
Along with the release date, the makers also announced that the film would be released in Tamil Nadu by Red Giant Movies. NEEK stars a young brigade of actors including Pavish, Anikha Surendran, Matthew Thomas, Priya Prakash Varrier, Rabiya Khatoon and Ramya Ranganathan. The movie marks Dhanush’s first directorial to feature music by GV Prakash Kumar. While his first film Pa Paandi had music by Sean Roldan, the songs of Raayan were composed by AR Rahman.
The first two songs from NEEK, titled “Golden Sparrow” and “Kadhal Failu,” are already out, and have been ruling the charts since its release. Incidentally, GV Prakash is also composing music for Idli Kadai, Dhanush’s fourth film as the director. Backed by Dawn Pictures, Idli Kadai has already zeroed in on April 10, 2025 as the release date. This leaves just two months between the release of two Dhanush directorials. While it is not known if Dhanush is featuring in a cameo or a special appearance in NEEK, Idli Kadai is headlined by the National Award-winning actor. In Idli Kadai, Dhanush is joined by his Thiruchitrambalam co-star and National award-winning actor Nithya Menen.
Meanwhile, Dhanush also has a stellar lineup of films as an actor including Sekhar Kammula’s Kubera, and Aanand L Rai’s Tere Ishk Mein.
