Praising India’s progress since the adoption of the Constitution, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called it ‘extraordinary’, asserting that country’s ancient democratic roots have been an inspiration for the world.
Speaking in Lok Sabha during the discussion on the ‘Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India’, PM Modi said, “India is not only a big democracy, it is the mother of democracy.”

The Prime Minister also said unity is the foundation for achieving the dream of becoming a developed nation by 2047. “Our Constitution is the basis of our unity,” he said.
Modi paid tribute to the makers of the Constitution and the citizens for upholding their vision, defying doubts about India’s democratic future. Those involved in the making of the Constitution were well aware that India was not born in 1947 or turned democratic in 1950, he said, citing remarks of eminent personalities like Purushottam Das Tandon and Bhim Rao Ambedkar.
He also praised the role of women in India’s progress, adding that the Constitution granted them voting rights and the country is now witnessing women-led development.
He commended parliamentarians for the unanimous passage of the law providing reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
