Urging a revision in the toll tax hike between Vadodara and Bharuch that has added to travel costs between the two cities, Vadodara Lok Sabha MP Hemang Joshi has written a letter to Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari. Joshi has also pointed out an “additional charge” being levied on vehicles passing the toll tax more than twice in a day.
Stating that the increase in the toll tax has caused “financial strain” on commuters, Joshi’s letter underlines, “Since November 25, 2024, there has been a sudden and steep hike in toll tax on the Vadodara-Bharuch route with charges for return journey increasing from Rs 155 to Rs 230. This sharp 50% increase is not only unexpected but also burdensome for daily commuters, particularly for the lakhs of individuals who travel between Vadodara and Bharuch for work in their personal vehicles… Additionally, if a vehicle passes through the same toll plaza more than twice within 24 hours, an extra amount is now being charged, which was not a practice earlier…”
Joshi has also urged Gadkari to “review and revise the hike” as well as to eliminate the additional charge and bring about transparency in toll revisions. He stressed that the road is frequented by professionals who travel to and from work everyday and stated that the matter should be “urgently” addressed to make “transportation affordable and accessible for all citizens”.
