Amid wedding season, tax evasion of Rs 6.7 crore detected across nine districts in Gujarat

Three days after searches were conducted at the premises linked to 43 taxpayers, engaged in the sale and rental of wedding garments, including designer dresses, suits, and accessories, Gujarat State GST Department on Saturday said it has found primary evidence of tax evasion of at least Rs 6.70 crore. The statement comes amid the wedding season.

The statement from the SGST department underlined that irregularities such as unaccounted sales and underreporting of tax liability were noticed during the search operations in the nine districts: Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Rajkot, Navsari, Mehsana, Anand, Kheda and Amreli.

Officials detected total tax evasion of nearly Rs 6.70 crore and total liability of about Rs 8.50 crore. The statement said that this amount is likely to increase as the investigation progresses. All avenues of legal action for protecting and realising government revenue are being pursued by the state tax department. Further investigation remains underway.
