Brushing past the results of Kanguva, Suriya is hoping to strike gold with his upcoming 44th and 45th films. While he has completed filming for Karthik Subbaraj’s Suriya 44, the actor is currently working on Suriya 45, helmed by actor-filmmaker RJ Balaji. The movie, which went on floors earlier this month, had a major change in the team with AR Rahman stepping away from composing duties, and the latest music sensation Sai Abhyankkar taking on this huge responsibility. Over the past few days, the makers have been sharing cast updates about the film.
The project, backed by Dream Warrior Pictures, is set to mark the reunion of the blockbuster pair of Suriya and Trisha. Incidentally, Trisha recently celebrated 22 years as a leading actor in Tamil cinema, which began with Suriya’s Mounam Pesiyathey (2002). They went on to star in just one more film together, Aaru (2005), and Suriya appeared in a special dance number alongside Trisha in the latter’s Manmadhan Ambu. Apart from Trisha, RJ Balaji has roped in Lubber Pandhu-fame Swasika in a pivotal role.

Other important actors being roped in for Suriya 45 are Yogi Babu and Indrans. Although the veteran Malayalam actor has starred in Aadum Koothu and Nanban before this, Suriya 45 marks his first film in Tamil after he transitioned to a bonafide actor, who excelled in more than just comic roles. Another interesting addition to the cast that has impressed netizens is Shhivada, who is fresh off the success of her role in this year’s runaway hit Garudan. A lot of such fresh pairings are present in Suriya 45, including the presence of cinematographer-actor Natty, who seems to be part of every big-ticket film in Tamil cinema.
Rounding off the cast are Supreeth Reddy and Anagha Maaya Ravi, and interestingly enough, the latter played the pivotal role of Mammootty and Jyotika’s daughter in Kaathal.
The film, which has cinematography by GK Vishnu, in his first-ever non-Atlee endeavour in Tamil, is expected to hit the screens in 2025.
