Punjabi Bagh flyover in Delhi likely to open next week

The Punjabi Bagh flyover is likely to be opened by next week, benefitting commuters travelling between West Delhi and Southwest Delhi towards Central Delhi and Gurgaon, said officials.

Currently, the stretch, which is part of the Ring Road, sees heavy traffic due to the ongoing construction work. The flyover is part of the Integrated Corridor Development of Punjabi Bagh.

“Around 98% of work has been completed and it is nearly ready to be opened for traffic. The only hindrance is that a tree is in the middle of the road; we have sent several applications to remove the tree… The department is now planning to open two of the three lanes on one side…,” said a senior PWD official.

The other side will be fully opened.

The 1.3-km-long flyover connects the ESI Metro station and Club Road.

One part of this corridor, a half flyover at Moti Nagar, was opened earlier by former CM Arvind Kejriwal in March. The remaining section, which includes a footpath and a pedestrian underpass, has already missed two deadlines.

With the Delhi elections ahead, officials said they will send a proposal for inaugurating the flyover, seeking a date and approval from CM and PWD minister Atishi. Officials said,

“We hope to get approval soon from the CM to open the flyover for the public.”
