Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Kuwait, was awarded the country’s highest honour–the ‘Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer’ on Sunday by his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. The honour is a Kuwaiti knighthood awarded to Heads of State, foreign sovereigns, and members of foreign royal families as a symbol of friendship.
This award is the 20th international honour in the list of international awards Modi was conferred with by foreign nations. Below is a list of honours bestowed upon him till date.
1. Order of Abdulaziz Al Saud (highest honor of Saudi Arabia awarded to non-muslim dignitaries) –2016
2. State Order of Ghazi Amir Amanullah Khan (highest civilian honor of Afghanistan) –2016
3. Grand Collar of the State of Palestine Award (highest honor of Palestine awarded to foreign dignitaries) –2018
4. Order of Zayed Award (highest civilian honor of the United Arab Emirates) –2019
5. Order of St. Andrew award (highest civilian honor of Russia) –2019
6. Order of the Distinguished Rule of Nishan Izzuddin (highest honour of the Maldives awarded to foreign dignitaries) –2019
7. King Hamad Order of the Renaissance (this Bahrain Order – First Class is a top honour by the gulf country) –2019
8. Legion of Merit by the US Government (award of the United States Armed Forces that is given for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services and achievements)–2020
9. President Surangel Whipps Jr. of Republic of Palau honoured PM Narendra Modi with an ‘Ebakl’ in 2023– a tool of significance in Palauan society as a symbol of leadership and wisdom.
10. Highest honour of Fiji, the Companion of the Order of Fiji by Sitiveni Rabuka, in 2023.
11. Companion of the Order of Logohu by Papua New Guinea–2023.
12. Order of the Nile by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt–2023.
13. Grand Cross of the Legion of Honour conferred by France to Modi in 2023.
14. Grand Cross of the Order of Honour given by Greece in 2023.
15. Order of the Druk Gyalpo or the Order of the ‘Dragon King’ by Bhutan’s King in 2024.
16. Grand Commander of the Order of Niger by Nigeria in 2024.
17. Dominica Award of Honour by Dominica in November, 2024.
18. Order of Excellence of Guyana in 2024
19. Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados Award by the country of Barbados–2024.
20. Lastly, Order of Mubarak the Great-Kuwait by the Amir of Kuwait in December, 2024.
