In a daylight house break-in, burglars made away with about 500 gm gold and 4.5 kg silver from an apartment in the plush Salisbury Park area of Pune city.
The burglary took place between 1.30 am and 2.50 pm on December 18.
A 57-year-old woman lodged the FIR at Swargate police station on December 19. As per the FIR, the complainant has been living at the apartment at Marble House in Salisbury Park with her husband, son and daughter, and all four of them have a set of house keys.
Her husband and son left for work in the morning on December 18. In the afternoon, the complainant and her daughter were planning to go to Mukund Nagar. But when the complainant got to know that her husband had left his set of keys at home, and was likely to come home for lunch, she locked the door and kept the key in the shoe rack near the apartment entrance.
The complainant, with her daughter, left home around 1.30 pm, and phoned her husband to tell him that the keys were kept in the shoe rack.
Meanwhile, the complainant and her daughter returned home around 2.50 pm, only to find that the cupboard in the bedroom was open, and the gold and silver ornaments kept inside were stolen. They searched the entire house, but could find the jewellery. The complainant called her husband and told him about the theft, then reported it to the police station.
Police have booked the unidentified burglars in this case under section 305, 331 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
A police team visited the crime scene, and based on the clues obtained from videos captured by CCTV cameras at the apartment and other locations, police have launched a search for the accused persons.
