Honey Singh offers a raw and emotional glimpse into his struggles with addiction and mental health in his documentary Yo Yo Honey Singh: Famous. In one segment, the Blue Eyes singer broke down while recalling how he had to quit singing for 2–2.5 years to focus on his mental health after being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. During this challenging period, he stayed home without work and felt deeply distressed watching his elderly father go to work, a sight that left him heartbroken.
In the documentary, Honey Singh, with tears in his eyes, shared, “When I didn’t work for 2-2.5 years, it was a terrible time. A young man is sitting at home and sleeping till 12:30 in the the afternoon. Meanwhile, Papa went to work and comes back. When he would look at me and our eyes would meet, I would feel a lot of shame that I am not earning and my father has to work at this age.”
He also urged his fans to take a lesson from his experiences and prioritize caring for their parents. He said, “My parents have done a lot for me. I couldn’t do anything for them. They just keep waiting for me and when I will come home and I can’t even sit at hime. When I was at home, I was like a mad corpse. What have they seen till now? I have seen everything. Who ever is watching this documentary, I just ask them to take care of their parents. If they leave, they won’t come again,” he said.
Honey Singh opened up about his battle with bipolar disorder in the documentary, describing the intense mental and emotional toll it took on him. He said, “It was bipolar disorder. There were psychotic symptoms as well. What happens then is that your mind goes out of control. You start seeing dreams while you’re awake. I would get scared even when my maid used to come thinking she’d be laughing at me, she was wiping blood off the floor, etc. It was a weird feeling. I thought I’d never be able to meet my parents again. I saw hell. I wished for death every day.”
